Pinocchio’s Syndrome

This coming Wednesday The House Foreign Affairs Committee will consider a resolution that would declare, ” the Armenian Genocide was conceived and carried out by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923.” It is estimated that about 1.5 million Armenians were killed during this period. This would mean that the House would be on record with the United States officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Read the article- click here.

Turkish Ambassador Nabi Sensoy says passage of this resolution would have “very, very unfortunate” consequences for U.S.-Turkish relations. Sensoy also states,

“It is true that what happened in 1915 is a very sad episode in our common history,” Hundreds of thousands of Armenians perished. Hundreds of thousands of Turks perished. . . . We don’t need a new generation of people to hate one another.”

The hate would subside if there was an official acknowlegement of genocide by the Turkish government. You can forgive someone once they admit to the truth. The truth has been buried for over 90 years. Nabi Sensoy is another diplomat kowtowing to the official government line on the genocide. Someday a Turkish official will be brave enough to take a stance for the truth which will set in motion the process of healing. But “Buffalo Chip of the Week” Nabi Sensoy won’t be that official.
