White House Censors Global Warming Report

The Bush administration doesn’t believe that global warming is a problem. On Tuesday the Center for Disease Control and Prevention submitted a report as testimony to Congress on the impact of global warming. All the negative details were edited from the report by the White House Office of Management and Budget. I guess it’s OK to go buy that Hummer now. From the ABC News web article,

“The edits essentially deleted all sections that referred to climate change as a public health concern — including the risks of increased food-borne and waterborne diseases, worsening extreme weather events, worsening air pollution and the effect of heat stress on humans…In response to the controversy that followed, White House press secretary Dana Perino stated that the White House Office of Management and Budget redacted the majority of the information on the basis that the science in the testimony did not match the science reported by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).”

That’s funny because two weeks ago the IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize along with Al Gore for educating the world on the adverse effects of global warming. More from the ABC web article,

“The IPCC report describes in detail how climate change would lead to effects such as heat waves, cold spells, extreme weather events and weather disasters, air pollution, increased infectious diseases, and increased waterborne and vector-borne infectious diseases.”

Another lesson learned as if we weren’t reminded everyday - don’t trust the Bush administration…ever.

I read that George Bush is indifferent to global warming; he just doesn’t care. And apparently Bush is focused more on Cheney’s interests in the energy industry. Probably both Bush and Cheney will ignore global warming… they don’t want to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Environmentalists will be angry at them, but then again much of the American public doesn’t care about climate change.

Myself, I can’t decide… depends whether global warming disasters will happen soon, or in 20 years or 100 years… who knows…
